My Secret Chiefs 3 collection just wasn't grabbing me so much any more, so I decided to check out a side project - Estradasphere. Not only do they have a frickin' awesome name, but their sound is truly unique, and uniquely my thing. Palace of Mirrors is all over the place: crazy gypsy fiddle metal, Morricone-esqe western soundtrack, a bit of the Goblin. These guys definitely love trashy Italian movies, and, well, so do I, so I love this album.
But that's not even what has me most excited. Seems that the Secret Chiefs 3 have also recorded an album of John Zorn's Masada compositions. Now that, my friends, is going to be an album made just for me. First album I've been really excited about for a long, long time.
Estradasphere are going to be playing Berbati's on Februrary 23rd, and I'm going to have to break my years-long boycott of that particular venue to see them. I so wish they were playing somewhere else, but there just aren't very many places for bands to play around here anymore. I just hope that they fired the sound crew that they used to have who could not figure out how to mix acoustic instruments. And that the obnoxious downtown meat market people have found someplace else to piss people off. We shall see.
