These are the Apples I've known

In honor of today's iPhone release - check out this nice graphic of the evolution of Apple's hardware design. For years I've been saying that I want one single handheld device that does everything, yet I'm not getting an iPhone. I'm not generally an early adopter, I always wait until the second generation to invest in any new gear. Plus I don't like the idea of sticking this big screen up to my face. I guess that's why they make Bluetooth headsets, but I also don't like walking around looking like a schizophrenic. So I'll wait and see what the next version looks like.

In commemoration, through the list, here are the Apple products I have known and loved:
Apple /// - in school. Ask me about Logo!
Apple IIc - my first home computer
Macintosh SE - college labs mainstay
Macintosh IIfx - my first real job after college
Macintosh IIci - hand-me-down from a friend*
Quadra 800 - upgrade at the first job
PowerComputing something or other (Apple's dark years) - first machine I bought new with my own money*
Power Macintosh - second job
PowerMac G4 - bought to start a company, left it there when I quit. I still have the monitor, though
PowerBook Titanium G4 - my still trusty laptop, soon to be retired
iMac DV - Aaron's machine, also soon to be retired
PowerMac Mirror - my trusty desktop machine. Dual 1 GHz, still has a couple more years in him
iPod 3rd gen - yes, it has battery problems

By the end of the summer I'm going to get a new MacBook, just a little one. I have to take business trips every once in a while and the old TiBook just can't hack it anymore, so it's going to be a full-time music server.

Out of all of them, the only one that's ever had any kind of problem was the iPod, which was a bonus from work, so I couldn't even turn it in for the battery replacement. It still holds enough charge for a walk to the bank and a couple of bus trips, so I don't really care.

I think I'll hold out for the next generation of iPhone, maybe.
