I'm off

Into the wilderness, sort of.

More like the land of the RV and ATV and whatever other annoying gas-guzzling, noise-polluting, utterly-useless-as-transportation, "recreational" vehicle is popular this year.

Possible postings from the road, but not likely, since computers need electricity, and there ain't none where we're going.

Back in two weeks!

Several Things

Several things that have kept me from posting as of late, in no particular order:

1. Work, lots of it. Not a wholy bad thing, but too much of it was wasted time. Need some workflow innovations, or a faster computer, or both.

2. Planning a 2-week road trip. Luckily some of it will be overlapping last year's trip, so we know what expect. Surprisingly I had no trouble getting reservations for a campsite in Yellowstone with less than a week's notice. Huh? Maybe it's still too cold up there for all those Winnebago warriors.

3. Dad's wedding. The reason for the road trip. My invitations turned out great, all the plans are laid, and I didn't know until last night what I was going to wear. Luckily I don't have an official role at the ceremony. And of course it's a full-on Scottish deal, so I had to find something that I could wear with my very red family tartan. I wore black to my mom's wedding, so I'm going with charcoal gray this time.

4. My 10-year college reunion. Ten whole years. Damn. Made me feel young (most of the attendees were from '54 and '64), and un-ambitious (all my classmates are lawyers and doctors now). Happy to report that the poolroom jukebox has been replaced with an amazing, and free, MP3 jukebox with an enormous library. Shot some very bad games with an old dormie from freshman year, played some of the classics, spilled beer on a table. Ah, just like the old days. Now we just need to add Killdozer's cover of "Nasty", and "Orygun" and it'll all be alright.

5. Miikka Kiprusoff and the Calgary Flames. It's taken me a couple years to warm to hockey, but now I think I can call myself an actual fan. After my other teams (Leafs, Avs) got eliminated (on the same, bleak day), we had to start rooting for Calgary against all the teams we hated. And from what I've seen on the Flames Message Board, I'm not the only one with a big huge hockey crush on the goalie. Flaming red hair, steely blue eyes, totally unflappable, camera-shy, amazingly psychic goaltending, and best of all, Finnish! I hope there's some way to get coverage of the european games of the World Cup, 'cus I can't wait to see him play for home.
